A freezing toilet is especially good to be used on the side of an outhouse, where there is a composting toilet. In this combination the main toilet is the outhouse where most of the toilet waste is handled. The freezing toilet serves as the indoor toilet during night, bad weather, winter – whenever the outhouse is not easy to use.
Use of Ekohytte freezing toilet
The freezing toilet is used like any water closet, only flushing is missing. All toilet waste together with toilet paper goes to the same waste container (21 liters). Biodegradable bags are used in the waste bucket for easier emptying. There is no need to use any dry material, like saw dust.
When the waste container becomes full, it is time for emptying. The bucket is taken out of the toilet and the contents together with the biobag are emptied to a garden composter. Please note, that the composter should have a lid and a bottom, so that the melting waste would not leak into the nature. Also, it is recommended to use a lot of dry material in the composter to ensure efficient and odorless composting process.
Useful tips
Ekohytte freezing toilet can be cleaned with a wet cloth and universal detergent. The waste container can be washed separately with hot water if needed.
A freezing toilet can be used is space where there the temperature is above +5. It can be stored with power off in cold, even below zero temperature.
A spare bucket is also available for Ekohytte, as the full bucket can thaw for a while before it can be emptied into the composter.
