Compost biochar 15 l

28,90

Biochar is a versatile soil conditioner that retains water and nutrients, improves soil structure, and supports healthy plant growth. It helps reduce the need for watering and fertilization while promoting beneficial microbial activity in the soil. Biochar is suitable for gardens, pots and planters, lawns, compost, and as a bulking material for composting toilets.

Remember to charge the biochar with nutrients before use.

Description

Biochar is a natural, long-lasting soil conditioner that improves soil structure and supports plant health in many ways. Biochar is made from clean biomass, such as wood and plant material. The material is heated in an oxygen-limited environment, creating a porous carbon structure.

This porous structure absorbs water and nutrients and releases them gradually for plant use. As a result, plants grow more evenly, experience less drought stress, and require less frequent watering and fertilization.

Biochar loosens the soil and creates excellent conditions for beneficial microbes. It is suitable for all plants and is especially useful in dry growing conditions, container and raised-bed gardening, and new plantings where fast root development and a strong start are desired.

When used in compost, biochar enhances the composting process, reduces odors, and binds nutrients, resulting in a higher-quality, long-lasting compost product. Biochar can also be used as a bulking material for composting toilets, where it absorbs odors and supports the composting of toilet waste.

Important before use

Biochar must always be charged with nutrients before being added to soil. This can easily be done by using biochar as a compost bulking material or by soaking it for a few days in fertilizer solution, compost leachate, or urine.

Manufactured in Finland.

Charged biochar:

  • Mix approx. 5–10% biochar into the soil
    • e.g. 10 liters of potting soil → add 0.5–1 liter of biochar
  • Seedlings: small seedling 1 tsp, larger seedling 1 tbsp
  • Trees and shrubs: approx. 1 kg (3–4 l) per planting hole
  • Lawns: 1 l / m² applied into aeration holes

Uncharged biochar:

  • For compost and composting toilets: approx. 1 dl at a time

When used correctly, biochar improves soil quality in the long term and supports sustainable, nature-based cultivation.
